Format

Much like regular ozfortress seasonal leagues, the ozfortress Experimental Cup 2 will feature weekly matches for teams over the course of three weeks. However, teams will be required to play two matches per week. Each of these official matches will consist of only one 5CP / Control Point map. In order to accommodate the extra match per week, the ozfortress Experimental Cup 2 will see Saturday added as a playable match day. All Playoffs/Finals matches are a three map BO3.

Where this differs from previous cups and tournaments like Summer Cup 2021 is that Round 1, Round 3, and the Semi-Finals will be played in the first half of each match week, which is Saturday, Sunday, and Monday. Round 2, Upper/Lower Page Playoffs, and the Grand Finals will be played in the second half of each match week, which is Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday. This leaves Friday as the only day not included in the schedule. All teams are required to be available for two out of the three days in each half of the match week.

A TL;DR for all of our zoomers or dementia-ridden boomers:

With three rounds of Group Stages and three rounds of Playoffs/Finals, you will have six rounds split into two matches per week for a total of three weeks. Every "odd" match (R1, R3, R5/Semi-Final in this case) is played from Saturday to Monday. Every "even" match (R2, R4/Page Playoff matches, R6/Grand Final) is played from Tuesday to Thursday. No matches on Friday.

Pick/Bans

All matches in ozfortress' Experimental Cup 2 will utilize a pick/ban system.

For Group Stage matches (all of which will be Best of One/BO1) the pick/ban format will be as follows:

  1. The higher-seeded or first team will ban first.
  2. The second team will ban a map.
  3. The first team will ban a map.
  4. The second team will ban a map.
  5. The first team will select the last remaining map in the pool.
    • This step is required as the website will not automatically add the remaining map.

For Playoff/Finals matches (all of which will be Best of Three/BO3) the pick/ban format will be as follows:

  1. The higher-seeded or first team will ban first.
  2. The second team will ban a map.
  3. The first team will pick a map.
  4. The second team will pick a map.
  5. The first team will select the last remaining map in the pool.
    • This step is required as the website will not automatically add the remaining map.

Tournament Systems

Group Stages

All divisions will be using the Swiss system for their Group Stage matches.

Page Playoffs

All divisions will be using the Page Playoff system for their Playoff/Finals matches.

Whitelist

Experimental Cup 2 shares the same whitelist as Sixes Season 37. View the whitelist at whitelist.tf.

It is the responsibility of the player to not use banned items in matches. The whitelist not loading or loading incorrectly is not an excuse for using banned items.

Map Pool

Experimental Cup 2 will only feature five maps, of which most players should be fairly accustomed. We've selected this pool for its recognizability, familiarity, and reliability, providing a solid testing ground for the Pro Ruleset Timer plugin. We have opted only for 5CP / Control Point maps purely for testing purposes.

  • Process (cp_process_f12)
  • Snakewater (cp_snakewater_final1)
  • Gullywash (cp_gullywash_f9)
  • Sunshine (cp_sunshine)
  • Reckoner (cp_reckoner)
    • Please note: We're using the recently added official version of Reckoner.

Please note: cp_gullywash_f9 and cp_process_f12 are custom maps. If you don't already have these installed, please click the links above to download them, and then move them to your ..\Team Fortress 2\tf\download\maps directory.

The following commands can be used to change maps to the correct version. Type or copy these commands into your console to change to that map, as long as you have the correct rcon password.

rcon changelevel cp_process_f12
rcon changelevel cp_snakewater_final1
rcon changelevel cp_gullywash_f9
rcon changelevel cp_sunshine

Thread: Award Voting open now for Sixes S37 and Highlander S4!
core League Director

Hey, we wanted to clarify some things that have been asked. In general, all past procedures are still in place, with the only exception being the new submission method, but just to clarify:
- There should only be one submission per team. Please coordinate with your captain/s on voting.
- This may change in the future, but for now we're keeping it as close to our old submission requirements as possible.
- As it was with Award Voting in the past, teams cannot vote for their own teammates.

Award Voting for both Sixes Season 37 and Highlander Season 4 is open now and will close on Tuesday the 5th of September.

For Award Voting this time, we've opted to change up our voting submission process with the aim of streamlining and improving the process for you and us. Please be patient with us, as this is a live test and we may need to remedy potential issues on the fly, but we are hoping to automate much more of the Awards process on our end. In the past, Award Nominations and Voting have been a time sink that grows anytime there is an issue, not to mention the labour requirement would increase if we ever wanted to add more awards or expand the system further. By moving to a new, hopefully more automated process, we may be able to expand from what we have currently more easily.

We ask that only one person (preferably a captain) from each roster submits votes for the whole team.

Thread: Award Nominations for Sixes S37 & Highlander S4 are now live!
core League Director

Sorry for the delay! Award Nominations for Sixes Season 37 and Highlander Season 4 are now live. Please reach out to your division administrator for any issues with voting. Below are links to each nomination thread. Please read through the instructions carefully. Award Nominations close Friday the 18th of August 2023, so be sure to get yours submitted on time!

If you haven't submitted Award Nominations before, there are a few things to keep in mind:

  • Only one of the captains on your roster needs to submit your team's nominations. We expect most teams usually discuss who they want to nominate for what award. Please note, you can only nominate your teammates for an award, voting will come after all nominations are submitted.
  • Failure to submit nominations is pretty severe - failing to submit nominations will result in your team not receiving any in-game badges/medals. Whilst we do not require everyone to vote on awards, we require that all teams submit nominations, to give everyone on your roster a fair shot at winning one of the end-of-season awards! If you have any issues with this ruling, please feel free to reach out and exclusions can be discussed.

Thread: Highlander Season 4: Award Nominations

This thread is for nominating your team's players for the best-in-class awards for Highlander Season 4. This thread will be used by us to collect the rosters of each team for voting, which will happen at a later date.

Captains are asked to respond to this thread with the completed template below by Friday the 18th of August 2023! Please save replies for nominations only, and not discussion. Only one reply per team.

Failure to submit nominations will result in you and your team being unable to receive any awards or be eligible for in-game medals. While this may seem harsh, we do this so every player has a chance to be voted for. If you wish to be excluded for a specific reason, please reach out to your division administrator.

Strictly follow the format below, as we will be using an automated script to process this data.
