In January 2020, the Australian states and territories (and New Zealand) will fight it out for glory.
Welcome back State v State! It's been many years since ozfortress has hosted a State of Origin event, and we're hoping that the states will be more eager to prove themselves than ever. ozfortress State v State 2020 is a spectator-oriented event. We are working close with TFLIVE to deliver a fun spectator event to hype people up for OZF 27.
In this two-night cup, teams featuring players from each state will battle it out to claim the championship as well as the bragging rights for their state. The first night will involve a swiss-system group stage and the second night will feature the playoffs.
We encourage players of all skill levels to signup, you never know who will end up playing on the team!
For more information everything regarding how teams are formed and how the competition will run, see the linked threads at the bottom of this post. It has been a long time since ozfortress has run a State v State event, so we will be using this event to gauge how easy the event is to run as well as how well it is received. If you see any issues or notice any mistakes, please let an administrator know!
ozfortress servers will be used for this competition, but they will be distributed by ozfortress League Administrators through Warzone. Be sure to be in the ozfortress Discord for ease of communication.
Player Signups are open now, right up until Sunday the 12th of January at 11:59 PM

Will there be different divisions for ozfortress State V State 2020?
No. State v State has been designed to feature the top players from each state and will be a spectator-oriented event. We are working closely with TFLIVE to deliver a fun and enjoyable spectator event for all viewers. Staff, time and logistical limitations prevented us from running multiple divisions for ozfortress State V State 2020.
How many teams will there be for ozfortress State v State 2020?
We aim to have six teams for ozfortress State v State 2020. Pending availability of players, we are hoping to have teams representing VIC, NSW, WA, QLD, SA and one more additional Allies team comprised of players from the remaining states and territories as well as New Zealand.
How will teams be formed for ozfortress State v State 2020?
Players will submit their candidacy through the thread linked in the main announcement post. Admins will then assemble the best possible teams based on the players available. Teams will also have substitute players in the event that players are unavailable at the time of the event. After teams have been formed, captains for each team will be selected after discussion with the admin team and the players. We aim to have teams released several days to a week before the event commences, however we are unable to give an exact date.
What is the maximum amount of players per team?
In ozfortress State v State 2020, there will be 8 players allowed on the roster for each team.
How do I get the server?
Server strings will be distributed in the match details section of your match page. This will only be visible to the teams participating in the match.
How long is each round?
We allocate 45 minutes per round but we expect each round's game-time to be under 30 minutes.
How long can we pause for?
Pauses for this tournament must not last longer than 3 minutes. If there are any complications, contact your bracket's league administrator.
Will there be medals?
Unforunately, no.
Did ozfortress State v State 2020 replace the Midsummer Night's Cup?
No. We were never intending to run two Midsummer Night's Cups this offseason, State v State was conceived as a fun spectator event to generate hype for OZF 27.
View the whitelist at whitelist.tf
This global whitelist is part of an initiative to unify the international leagues. No changes have been made since the end of OZF 26.
New items added to the game during the cup will be banned until the next season. Modification of weapons will be evaluated by the administrative team. Taunts which are silent and/or toggle-able have been banned.
It is the responsibility of the player to not use these weapons in matches. The whitelist not loading or loading incorrectly is not an excuse for using banned items.
MAP POOL
ozfortress State v State 2020 will use a seven map pool, modified from OZF 26's map pool. Note: This map pool only effects playoffs when teams are picking maps for best-of-threes. All best-of-one maps are pre-determined.

Let's start 2020 with a bang in the event of this holiday season - ozfortress Presents: A Midsummer Night's Cup 2020, where teams will compete over one night in multiple brackets. A Midsummer Night's Cup 2020 will be held on the 12th of January.
The cups are designed to be a casual, laid-back event for over the summer, especially after three seasons of the flagship league run back to back. Focusing on a relaxed experience, there will be three brackets - Premier, Intermediate and Open. Premier and Intermediate will have 8 teams while Open will have 16, signups permitting. All brackets will be a single elimination bracket, over a single night.
Each match will be a best-of-one with maps being set, using a win-difference of 5 / 30 minutes format. King of the Hill maps are played to a first to three format.
Ties are not allowed, and can be resolved by Golden Cap, which is first to 1 / 10 minutes. If no one caps last at the end of 10 minutes, the team that owns the middle point will be declared the winner.
We'll be playtesting cp_villa_b8 this cup. We're excited to see feedback on cp_villa and how it plays!
Unfortunately, as this is a One Night Cup, there will be NO badges for this event.
As the schedule for this tournament is tight, teams must be ready with at least 5 rostered players in the server by the round start time. If a team is more than FIVE minutes late, your bracket's league administrator MUST be contacted and a forfeit win will be recorded. DO NOT DELAY YOUR MATCH AS A COURTESY TO A LATE TEAM. ONE DELAYED MATCH DELAYS THE WHOLE TOURNAMENT. Note that 5CP matches can go for 40 minutes with a Golden Cap, so this must be followed closely.
ozfortress servers will be used for this competition, but they will be distributed by ozfortress League Administrators through Warzone. Be sure to be in the ozfortress Discord for ease of communication.
In Warzone, captains can create Teams using the "Start Team" button on the Teams page. Once created, captains can invite players to the team. Team invites are shown on a player's profile, which can be accessed by clicking on your name next to the bell on the top right hand corner of your screen. Teams provide a pool of players that can be signed up for a tournament. Players may be in the pool for multiple teams but only one roster for any given tournament. Captains may sign up a roster for tournaments under the league page.
If you are using an existing team, you do not have to recreate your team again! Simply sign up your A Midsummer Night's Cup 2019 roster using your existing team!
The ruleset for the Midsummer Night's Cups differ slightly from the ruleset used in the regular seasonal leagues. Be sure to have a read of the changes to make sure you are up to date. These have been outlined in the following posts and also in the FAQ. If you have any further questions, message an administrator.
