Hey everyone, we have some changes for Dodgeball before it kicks off later today.
Moving to Swiss Group Stages
We're trying something new, Swiss Group Stages (technically we've done them before, but not like this). You will now see that every team has been placed into one of four groups. We have opted to go with Swiss Group Stages to allow for fairer divisions, because being real, whomst are some of yall.
Single Elimination Playoffs
With us making use of Swiss Group Stages, we still want to try our best to give everyone as much gametime as possible, without obliterating our schedule. To achieve this, we'll be taking the Top 4 Placements from each group, and thrusting them into a 16-team Single Elimination Playoff bracket. This will take some time to do on the day, so we have updated the schedule to give us an extra 10 minutes to make sure we can keep things moving smoothly between Group Stages and Playoffs.
Additionally, as we are no longer using our tried and tested Page Playoffs (but primarily because Playoffs will have 16 teams), there has been one extra round added to the Playoff schedule. We understand any shift in scheduling this late is far from ideal, but this is the least impactful move we could make.
Plugins, Plugins, Plugins.
With the initial release of the Dodgeball config and plugins on servers, Third Person (using !tp
to go into third person (and !fp
to go back to first person)) was added, but FOV was somewhat of a difficult thing to replicate the way we had tried to replicate it. We've since added another implementation, and now you can simply type !fov 130
or whatever value you wish between 40 and 130 to adjust your FOV in Dodgeball only, in either first or thirdperson.
Dodgeball Match Procedures
If you've played Ultiduo 19 or BBall 2, there will be nothing different on your end! If you haven't, please make sure you join the Team Captains Discord pronto.
In addition, everyone playing will need to go to #setup in the Team Captains Discord and submit a Dodgeball Captains application. This is done so we can more easily assign specific team roles to players when those roles become available to grant.
Scoring and Score Submission
Like BBall 2, Dodgeball will require scoring your matches slightly differently to what you may be used to. For Dodgeball, you will need to report your map score as is, meaning if you won 7-3 against your opponent, you would report that map's score as 7-3. Like always, we will be requiring logs.tf links be submitted to Match Pages on our website.
So it's First to 7 then?
Yup, with a 10 minute map time limit. We expect most matches to last between 4-7 minutes, but have allowed for plenty of time outside of that expectation.
The Usual Match Procedure Blurb
When each round starts, matches will be generated. Teams will need to communicate who will be booking the server, with the base expectation that the Home team will book the server (see our Book a Server guide to learn how to book). Teams will need to both load the map and execute the config before playing. We have allowed for extra time between matches, but the scheduling is still tight.
Please start each game as soon as possible, as there is a tight schedule, and delaying will delay the entire cup. If the other team has not shown up five minutes after the server has been booked, message an administrator to claim your forfeit win. Please DO NOT delay for the other team as a courtesy.
After the match is over, please submit and confirm the scores immediately. Posting of logs is mandatory.
A Gentle Reminder
Whilst we strive to ensure competitive integrity and fair play are at the forefront of every tournament decision we make, we want to let everyone know why we are running this. Something that should be pretty obvious, but its a bit of fun. Whilst we encourage people to be as competitive as they want, this is probably not something that will be seen again for some time, so enjoy it! The Dodgeball server files will remain after the event, so if you ever want to play some with some friends, go for it!
