Keen for TF2 after the New Year? We are happy to announce the first event of this year & the follow up to our last event - ozfortress: A Midsummer Night's Cup 2, which will take place on the 14th of January.
Much like it's predecessors, this cup are designed to be a casual, laid-back event for over the summer, especially after three seasons of the flagship league run back to back. Focusing on a relaxed experience, there will be three brackets - Premier, Intermediate and Open. Premier and Intermediate will have 8 teams while Open will have 16, signups permitting. All brackets will be a single elimination bracket, over a single night.
Each match will be a best-of-one with maps being set, using a win-difference of 5 / 30 minutes format. King of the Hill maps are played to a first to three format.
Ties are not allowed, and can be resolved by Golden Cap, which is first to 1 / 10 minutes. If no one caps last at the end of 10 minutes, the team that owns the middle point will be declared the winner.
For this second cup, we welcome the return of koth_bagel & cp_reckoner! The Grand Final of Premier and Intermediate will be played over three maps using a pick-ban system with a slightly modified version of the OZF 20 map pool.
As this is a One Night Cups, there will be NO badges for this Summer event. However, there will be a prize pool for the Premier bracket, kindly donated by xander and flyingbuddy:
1st - $90
2nd - $30
3rd - 12 Keys
Unfortunately we will be unable to provide prizes for the Intermediate & Open brackets.
As the schedule for this tournament is tight, teams must be ready with at least 5 rostered players in the server by the round start time. If a team is more than FIVE minutes late, your bracket's league administrator MUST be contacted and a forfeit win will be recorded. DO NOT DELAY YOUR MATCH AS A COURTESY TO A LATE TEAM. ONE DELAYED MATCH DELAYS THE WHOLE TOURNAMENT. Note that 5CP matches can go for 40 minutes with a Golden Cap, so this must be followed closely.
ozfortress servers will be used for this competition, but they will be distributed by ozfortress League Administrators through Citadel. Be sure to be in the ozfortress Discord for ease of communication.
Since there are multiple brackets, all administrators will be separated into respective brackets like the seasonal league. League administrators and their respective brackets will be announced when signups have ended.
In Citadel, captains can create Teams using the "Start Team" button on the Teams page. Once created, captains can invite players to the team. Team invites are shown on a player's profile, which can be accessed by clicking on your name next to the bell on the top right hand corner of your screen. Teams provide a pool of players that can be signed up for a tournament. Players may be in the pool for multiple teams but only one roster for any given tournament. Captains may sign up a roster for tournaments under the league page.
If you are using an existing team, you do not have to recreate your team again! Simply sign up your A Midsummer Night's Cup 2018 roster using your existing team.
The ruleset for the Midsummer Night's Cups differ slightly from the ruleset used in the regular seasonal leagues. Be sure to have a read of the changes to make sure you are up to date. These have been outlined in the following posts and also in the FAQ.
If you're new and not sure how to get started, don't fret! Check out the #recruitment section of the ozfortress Discord where you can express your interest in joining a team, or peruse potential players to form a team of your own. Teams are normally comprised of 1 Medic, 1 Demoman, 2 Soldiers and 2 Scouts. If you're new to the competitive scene, click here for an introduction to ozfortress! Whether you're a veteran or new to the scene, get on a team and come play!
We are really keen to get this out for people to know about this - form your teams, and get ready to play some great TF2. Signups are open now, right up until Friday the 12th of January at 11:59 PM!

Happy New Year ozfortress!
On behalf of the entire administration team, I'd like to wish the ozfortress community a very happy new year. It's been a really great year, with the great Pyro Update and we are super excited about what we have planned just round the corner! We have the second night of A Midsummer Night's Cup 2018, and an action-packed OZF 21 right after that! Along with the flagship ozfortress seasonal league, there are smaller tournaments such as Ultiduo in the off-seasons.
As for 2018, there's a few small things I want to address regarding our plans. I believe in transparency so it is best for me to notify you of what we wish to accomplish this year. There will be no major changes and all the items I am about to discuss are minor differences between 2017 and the planned 2018. This is also the first time that rough dates for all events of the year are publicly published in advance.
Many members of our community have been concerned about the shorter off-seasons since the introduction of the tri-annual ozfortress seasonal league. In 2017, the entire calendar was based to have the longest off-season possible whilst accounting for exams for most major universities as well as the HSC/VCE/QCE. However, the majority of our users have voted as per the November Poll that it does not matter to them if ozfortress seasons run concurrent with exam periods. As a result of this, for 2018, there will be longer off-seasons at the expense of seasons running through some exams. As a side note, university Semester 1 exams are unavoidable regardless of what we do. Year 12 exams also suffer from this complication. The only set of exams that we can somewhat avoid are Semester 2 exams.
We also wish to extend the period of signups for the ozfortress seasonal league. For the past two years, this period has been set at 11 days. We intend to extend this to sometime between 2 to 3 weeks.
Ultiduo will again run after the first season of this year. We expect it to occur sometime mid-late April in the off-season. We also wish to run a small tournament (similar to the Summer Cups) around August of 2018. The format or type of tournament has not yet been decided.
In development is an infraction system that existed with the old forums. We are in the late stages of developing these infractions and intend to implement them sometime in the first few months.
The Global Whitelist will continue to be implemented and updated throughout this year. There have been some recent changes to the Whitelist as per the Pyro Update, with some weapons being tested in the current off-season. View these changes here.
As with the forums, we wish to make several improvements to the new system on warzone before we migrate. We plan to close and archive the old site to preserve the history, and start fresh on warzone. There will be similar sub-forums and major threads on the new system. We thank /dev/zero for his continued development and many hours spent on maintaining and upgrading warzone.
Thanks everyone for traveling with us throughout the year and being such a supportive community. We do this because we love it, and we hope you love the ride too <3. With that, have fun, stay safe, and see you all around for an incredible 2018.

The Jungle Inferno update was introduced mid-season, and some provisional measures were taken by the admin team. This included bans for both the new weapons (Dragon’s Fury, Gas Passer, Thermal Thruster, Hot Hand, Second Banana) as well as the majority of the changed weapons (Panic Attack, Pretty Boy’s Pocket Pistol, Mantreads, Beggar’s Bazooka, Backburner). Since this was only a short-term adjustment which be improved upon, let us look at the changes needed for the next iteration of the Global Whitelist. With some downtime during the holidays we’ll be approaching the whitelist slightly differently; due to there being limited playtest data available for the new and changed weapons since the update.
The following weapons will be unbanned in a provisional whitelist for a short amount of time, after which we will make a decision on the temporarily allowed weapons. The final decision will be made in early January.
- The Gas Passer
- B.A.S.E Jumper
- Bonk! Atomic Punch
- Sandman
Changes to the whitelist
Below is a summary of changes that will be part of the whitelist. There is a full explanation of the changes at the teamfortress.tv post linked at the bottom of this post.

Thank you all for playing in the casual ozfortress: A Midsummer Night's Cup 1 2018! It was exciting to see all the muck ups and confused players on the mirrored maps. See you soon in January, where there will be the second part of the Summer Cup, which will have more sensible maps and also a small prizepool! Enjoy the holidays!
