The August poll is here! Like always, we run a poll in between tournaments to see what the community wants. We've put in some key questions that we would like you to answer regarding whitelists, administration, important rule changes and maps.

It would be greatly appreciated if you take the time to express your views so we can make ozfortress better!

It has been nearly three years since I began managing ozfortress competition. Over this period of time we've hosted eight seasons of the seasonal league, and many off-season cups. However, that time for me has come to an end, as effective immediately I will be stepping down as ozfortress League Director.

Over the last few months my priorities have changed as my new career kicks off. There was not enough motivation to justify me leading ozfortress, and I believe the community deserves a more dedicated League Director. Therefore, the time has come for me to give others a chance to better the league for the Oceanic community.

Despite this, I am proud of what ozfortress has become over the last three years. We have moved from matches being organised on a forum to a fully fledged tournament system (thanks to /dev/zero). TF2 is no longer played for only half the year, moving to a triannual system to keep up with the international leagues. Servers have also become easier to use, with the Discord booking system replacing the ancient IRC. The Global Whitelist also replaced the restrictive whitelist of seasons past.

Effective immediately, catfish is the new ozfortress League Director. I have full confidence that he will make ozfortress even better than it is today. This decision not a sudden change having been made months prior, and my successor has been briefed to make this a smooth transition. Nevertheless, I will still be advising or administrating where required and requested.

I am eternally grateful for the experiences I was able to gather, but most importantly the people I was able to meet, play and work with. With a grateful heart, I thank the entire community for the encouragement, cooperation and trust you have shown to me over the years. It's been fun hanging out with you all both online and in person. I'd like to thank all the ozfortress administrators both current and past for helping me through all the logistics, as well as those who have ever contributed, is still contributing or will contribute in the future to the competitive TF2 scene. The scene is small and self-driven, and it is those community leaders who keep the scene going forward. My role as League Director may end here but ozfortress and the competitive TF2 community will continue to advance without me.

Congratulations Premier winners Pencil Case

Snakewater - 5 - 0
Granary - 2 - 3 (GC)
Gullywash - 2 - 0
Sunshine - 6 - 1

Congratulations to Pencil Case on winning the OZF 22 Premier Grand Final against Jasmine Tea.

The first map of the series was Snakewater, the pick of Pencil Case. Pencil Case quickly demonstrated their proficiency on the map, taking the first round in just over a minute. Pencil Case then carried their momentum though the rest of the map, with Jasmine Tea unable to put a stop to them, leading to Pencil Case taking the map with a convincing 5 - 0 scoreline.

Jasmine Tea chose Granary as their first map pick. While Jasmine Tea were not able to dominate on their map in the same way that Pencil Case did on theirs, they showed that they were able to push Pencil Case and compete with them despite a season plagued with roster changes. Both teams ended up trading round until the score was 2 - 2, leading to a Golden Cap round. Jasmine Tea ultimately proved victorious and took the Golden Cap, taking the map 3 - 2, and tying the series 1 - 1.

The third map of the series was Gullywash. While the first round was quickly taken by Pencil Case in just over 3 minutes, the next round was a grueling 25-minute affair. Pencil Case eventually took the round, leaving Jasmine Tea unable to catch-up to the scoreline with only 30 seconds on the clock, putting Pencil Case ahead in the series at 2 - 1.

The final map was Sunshine, Jasmine Tea's second pick. However Pencil Case were quick to put three rounds on the board in what looked like could be another repeat of Snakewater. Pencil Case were then able to extend their lead to 4 - 0, putting Jasmine Tea in a difficult position. Jasmine Tea were able to answer back with the next round putting the score at 4 - 1, but by then it was too little too late with Jasmine Tea out of time to get the rounds required to win. Pencil Case then took the next two rounds in just over four minutes, taking the map 6 - 1 and the championship 3 - 1.

Thank you to all the players and support staff that helped make this season possible! Stay tuned for off-season cup!

Congratulations Intermediate winners Salt Free Gaming.

Granary - 3 - 0
Snakewater - 4 - 3 (GC)

Congratulations to Salt Free Gaming. on winning the OZF 22 Intermediate Grand Final against Active arnold and the Animated Aardvark.

The first map of the series was Granary, where the first round was a feisty fight, lasting close to half the game. The captures went back and forth, until ultimately Salt Free Gaming captured the last point. They carried on the momentum winning three more captures in quick succession, winning the first map 3-0.

Snakewater was the next map, the pick of Active Arnold's. Salt Free Gaming had the early momentum, winning three rounds in a row. Just when the end was bleak, Active Arnold pounced back, gaining three rounds within 8 minutes. With two minutes remaining, Active Arnold were able to push to last, but were unsuccessful in capturing the round, leading to a Golden Cap with a score of 3-3.

With a dominant midfight, Salt Free Gaming were able to gain early aggression in the round, pushing towards last. However, Active Arnold held their defence and eventually claimed back lost ground. Despite this, they were unable to stop a mighty push from Salt Free Gaming and the map ended 4-3.

Thank you to all the players and support staff that helped make this season possible! Stay tuned for off-season cup!

Congratulations Open winners HentaiHaven Hunters

Granary - 3 - 2 (GC)
Process - 2 - 3
Snakewater - 3 - 1

Congratulations to HentaiHaven Hunters on winning the OZF 22 Open Grand Final against open veterans.

open veterans were the top seeded team and picked Granary as the first map. The first half was very close, with the first round taking twenty minutes. open veterans' Sniper headshot the enemy Medic to deny them getting Uber, allowing open veterans to claim the first round. The next two rounds went the other way, going both to HentaiHaven Hunters. Time ran out and the Golden Cap was called. Another back and forth round started with both teams constantly trading last pushes. A Spy secured a backstab onto HentaiHaven Hunters' Medic, dropping Uber and prompting open veterans to push into last and capture the point, taking the map.

The second map was Process. The first round went to HentaiHaven Hunters after open veterans dropped to a sticky trap pushing out of last. Rounds went back and forth for several rounds. A failed last push allowed HentaiHaven Hunters to push into mid, however leaving the second point uncapped allowed a backcap! With one and a half minutes remaining, open veterans desperately needed to win so they could try and force a Golden Cap. They won the mid fight but unfortunately were not able to push last successfully against a Heavy and Sentry with no Uber.

The third and final map was Snakewater. After numerous player and pause issues the first round went to HentaiHaven Hunters. Round two was a long fought after affair. There numerous last push attempts from open veterans but finally their Sniper dropped HentaiHaven Hunters' Medic to win them the round. HentaiHaven Hunters pick up the third round after a failed last push. The final round was won by HentaiHaven Hunters after a backcap by two players, securing the map, and consequently the match, win for HentaiHaven Hunters.

Thank you to all the players and support staff that helped make this season possible! Stay tuned for off-season cup!

We want to thank all the players that have participated in our poll! We apologise since it has been a while since we’ve released poll results due to time constraints. Included in the results are some responses to written feedback to continue our policy of being as transparent as possible. A total of 101 players responded in this poll.

Global Whitelist

Above are the results for weapons in the Global Whitelist. Most responses are aligned with the current whitelist, with the only exception being the Thermal Thruster.

OZF League and Administrators

Overall most players enjoyed OZF 21 and were able to contact administrators when needed. We’ll continue to make ourselves more available during match days and hours to resolve any arising issues. We do apologise for the multiple server issues that arose during the season, and hope they will not return for the remainder for OZF 22.

Below is some of the feedback regarding the ozfortress league and ozfortress administrators that we received from the poll.

ozfort mumbles the only thing i would like to be a thing again
Unfortunately the server running the mumbles and Livelogs died and we haven’t been able to recover the data. We’ve looked into new options and the best way to get the mumbles running again is to fix old software and make it compatible with our new server, hence the delay. The mumbles will be freshly created.

Map picks/bans for finals should happen in the server on the night of the match instead of doing them through warzone. If we're scrimming teams throughout the week (and mainly the only people we can scrim are the opposing 2nd team) it just gives us more time to think about what we are banning and also allows us to play a larger pool of maps without being restricted to the maps that we would have banned/picked. In-server map picks/bans don't normally take that long as well if you guys are concerned about time being an issue.
Changed in OZF 22 as per Rule 3.5. Map selection can be performed in-game but must be documented on the match page. This is a similar system that ozfortress used prior to warzone.

Would like to see matches be able to be played on fridays and saturdays. Me and some of my friends haven't been able to play for a few seasons because we are usually busy with school on weekdays. So would prefer to have matches be able to be played on weekends.
Sundays are included in the five days permitted for matches, but each team must be available three out of the five days. Unfortunately we reserve Friday and Saturday to give players a break for social events. It also allows for match organisation to occur between captains, and also administrators to sort matches and transfers. Furthermore, if we allow matches to be played over a full seven day period, players will have to be available four days a week which will cause greater disruption to personal schedules.

Penalties for teams that disband, or incentives to stay together. It's not fair or fun for the rest of the teams playing in the league.
Captains of disbanded teams receive a captaincy ban for the following season, with repeated disbands leading to extended or permanent punishments. As for incentives for staying together, this is a great suggestion and we will discuss this in our next meeting.

Add heavy fist fight rule to determine which team gets to pick the team colour they want
This will be discussed and potentially included in OZF 23.

For off-season cups, there was overwhelming support for an Old Map Cup. Expect this to occur at the end of this season. The format whether it is a one night cup or over an extended period is yet to be decided. Other responses (not counting the provided responses) included a normal map cup, State vs State, and a map testing cup.

Regarding Livelogs, most players would like to see the service make a return. However there is incredible work required to bring it back alive and we currently lack the technical resources to do so. We acknowledge that it provided live results and showed the booker of the server, but the workload required outweighs the benefits at the moment.

For Scout awards at the end of the season, there will be both a flank and a combo Scout award starting from OZF 22.

Below is some of the feedback regarding ozfortress as a whole that we received from the poll.

as a side note qixalite stv demos are around 35mb for 30 min match while ozf are 60-70?
This is due to SrcTV+ which sends makes the server send all events, giving casting organisations more information to work with. This leads to a better stream for you to enjoy! The downside of this is of course larger demo files. Qixalite has also added this to their servers since for your benefit.

Somehow endorse streaming within the ozfortress community but showing various live streams on the ozf/warzone website which would further advertise the ozfortress brand to the broader community.
Good suggestion, this was considered in the early developments of warzone. Will bring this up again in our next meeting.

Alter the map pool, bring back maps such as reckoner and metalworks into the rotation.
s21 map pool was stale/dull. I think it needs new maps
We try to keep the map pool fresh by introducing newly made maps without destroying the consistency and fun of the ozfortress seasonal league. This means, using the latest versions of current maps and only swapping out one or two maps at a time. Being consistent with international leagues is vital too, taking into consideration international LANs. With OZF 22, we didn't believe that there were any suitable maps to be included. The administrators will continue to follow map developments and assess their potential to be included in the ozfortress seasonal league.

We thank you all who participated in the poll, as it helps us greatly coordinate the ozfortress seasonal league. If there is any other feedback that you would like to provide, please message an ozfortress administrator.
