State of Origin 2 Grand Final
Victoria vs New South Wales
Maps: cp_badlands, koth_pro_viaduct_rc3, cp_gravelpit
Time: Monday 9:00pm AEDT
STV: mal.ipgn.com.au:27035
Matchticker

Who will take the title of best state this year?

History has a funny way of repeating itself, I have heard mixed responses in the previous weeks about which two states would go head to head in the final but by and large most of those I asked said the same thing, Victoria vs New South Wales in the finals

Well they weren't wrong and here we are with two extremely strong teams looking to face off in the grand final - NSW having the distinct advantage of a second chance at victory should they fail they first time round like last year.

While writing this up I decided the best thing I could do would be approach one of the leaders of these teams for their thoughts on this Grand Final.

As such I present the NSW captain - Yuki

Greaver. Hey mate, feeling confident about leading your state into the Grand Final?

Yuki. Confident but not too confident to seem arrogant, I guess (contrary to my usual attitude, hah!).

Despite the score in our last meeting being 5-0 our way, I feel that we were much stronger on granary than them. Badlands is a map that can go either way since one team can just +forward and win because of it (hello all of Victoria jumping on my head on rollout).

Trolling aside, it should be a fun game - hopefully to play AND spectate.

Greaver. Confirmed cores for it?

Yuki. Usual bunch, I'll be on demoman, feresar and geo soldier (since aporia is usless and works alternate weeks EVEN THOUGH HE SAID HE WILL BE FINE TO PLAY ALL BUT ONE SOO GAME, It's ok geo is a good substitute), kriso and no mercy are scouting and crunch playing the medical assistance role.

Greaver. What strengths do you feel your team has over your opponents?

Yuki. I feel as a team we have more cohesion than the victorian line-up. More confident and stronger caller/leader in me (since that's what I do in my current team and have done for a long time), I feel I have the ability to know when to attack/fall back out of instinct which is definitely a strong skill to have, and be able to easily read any situation.

We also have some good dmers in our lineup (It's ok, BEFORE you have a heart attack, I am NOT talking about No Mercy). I feel when it comes down to the crunch (hehe) that we will win on phaseplay but NOT necessarily rollouts (imo in this game rollouts will be a diceroll, on badlands anyway since gravelpit will probably be the other map).

Greaver. So what do you expect you will have to watch out for?

Yuki. The main thing we will have to watch out for will be, as mentioned earlier, 4 or 5 players jumping on my head on rollout (which I will not be surprised to see since It's badlands and a pretty cheese but sometimes effective way to win a rollout).

Greaver. Yuki - in your last match up NSW came out on top, will that add to the pressure for the GF or just increase your confidence?

Yuki. Our last meeting was on a map that we definitely felt really confident/comfortable on. The fact that granary was eliminated first means Victoria knows this and are aiming to pick the seemingly more "diceroll' maps (viaduct/badlands, or maybe a gravelpit instead of one of those which isn't as diceroll) but if gravelpit was picked instead of one of those I think we'd feel much more confident.

There is some _mild_ pressure as we DID score 5-0 in our previous meeting, but not enough to cause any grief for any player. We're all fired up ready to play our best and hopefully come out with a win on the night.

Greaver. Having a second chance likely to lower the tension for your boys or will they use it as a chance to exert their dominance?

Yuki. Assuming we play our best I don't think we will need the second chance. While it is a nice buffer to have, It doesn't mean we will throw the first game or play less just because there's a "backup plan".

We will definitely make sure to play our best so we can aim to secure the win on the night.

Greaver. Given the maps left for choosing right now, they work to your advantages?

Yuki. As mentioned earlier, I'd say that viaduct and gravelpit would be our most favourable maps. Badlands may be a diceroll due to the fact of being able to roll on from a massive rollout win so quickly due to an entire bombing team being able to work successfully.

It's hard to say the outcome on any map right now since the only maps we have played eachother on have been viaduct (in scrims/warmup)and granary. Viaduct is a map where it is pretty easy to attack the point without uber and force the other team out if you do enough damage (since It is so open in the middle point), whereas gravelpit is a map that requires a bit more thinking going towards it and clean execution to ensure a good defence/offence. Regardless of the map, we won't let a map bring us down even if we feel it is not our strongest - we'll aim to play our best regardless of the map choices.

Greaver. Whats your thoughts on doing this every year?

Yuki. It's pretty fun I guess. Allows for you to play with other people that are not just in your team and you sometimes may be able to play a class you don't regularly play (I'm playing demo for this competition but i guess that doesn't count since i was a core demoman for two years, despite playing core soldier now).

It would be fun to participate in this every year - more competitions usually means more
media coverage which in turn HOPEFULLY directs more attention towards TF2 and maybe more people playing the game (preferably competitive).

Greaver. Good stuff - and finally, should I just stop hurting myself and not put NZ forward next year?

Yuki. *chuckles* I have decided I'm going to use some "bowt philosophy" here. If you said something like that to bowt, it would turn out something like this:

Greaver: "Bowt I'm playing shit"
Bowt: "Don't say that"

What bowt is trying to say is don't put yourself down. Even if you have a bad performance or two, or even more, don't get worked up over it. There's always a next time and there is always room to improve.

Never forget that the only way is up (ugh cliché used I'm DONE). So in turn i say to you, just try your best in the next State of Origin and be confident of winning (not losing!).

And there we have it folks - this should be an epic match up make sure you hit up that STV!

Son of Dad has created a teaser for this epic match up complete with Eric Bana!
