The FOOSH Sixes Invitational ended last night with team ENCORE winning the grand final game. YSW did not give this game up without a fight and it was one of the best games of TF2 I have seen in some time now.

We set this tournament up to not only go through the motions but we experimented with a new and shorter format with exciting, robust rounds. A strong focus was put on inviting more stable clans, we started the planning at a time when TF2 was in transition earlier this year. I am quite surprised at the progress these clans have made and as you would have noticed, not a single drop out all tournament.

There was another facet of tournaments which we placed more emphasis on, and that was the spectators. For an evolving community like ours everyone is very hungry to learn and study new formats and play styles. I appreciate the fact that all teams respected our decision here to include the spectators in our tournament. We reported over 2,000 spectators who viewed a game at one point from STV.

There were lots of great plays and many fun moments, I know from glancing at the comments right through the tournament that the players absolutely had a ball and spectators kept coming back every night to see their favourite teams battle it out for survival. The admin team also enjoyed the games and again I have to say we really appreciate the manner which teams adhered to the rosters and game formats unconditionally. We are an evolving community and us admins learn more and more as each day rolls on. The feedback we receive from our players is very crucial to the direction we take. However, we often make decisions (which seem unpopular) based on other factors other than just one persons opinions. End of the day we are here to preserve a level of gaming which suits our player-base as a whole.

Our friends over at netGameRadio have also put on a great show and kept the tournament appeal strong right through. Great to see an organisation such as theirs show such interest and dedication and it's my pleasure to assist them in providing such a great service to our community as well as gamestah radio who also have been putting out great casts from day 1. Your support for these groups only help strengthen online gaming and helps breed new frontiers in the future.

A special thanks to our sponsors who I have listed below and a special thanks to the staff at iPGN for not only their contribution is the prizes but also for their back end services which make tournaments like these possible.

To recap the prizes which were up for grabs:

(1st) Team ENCORE
108 packs of FOOSH Energy Mints + iPGN 18 slot TF2 server (12 months, 18 slot + 30 STVslot, Full FTP, small webspace & possibly a mumble server) + 6 x SteelSeries 3H headsets

(2nd) Team YSW
72 packs of FOOSH Energy Mints + 6 x SteelSeries QcK+ Mouse Pads

(3rd) Team qMx
72 packs of FOOSH Energy Mints

Tipping comp prizes
Sphinx -1st - 36 packs of FOOSH Energy Mints + nGR t-shirt
Feresar -2nd - 18 packs of FOOSH Energy Mints + nGR t-shirt
bobcorN - Randomly selected winner - 18 packs of FOOSH Energy Mints + nGR t-shirt

Player of the Tournament - goRe
SilverStone Raven RV01 Case & RVM01 Mouse

On behalf of the entire admin team here at ozfortress.com I'd like to say thank you to all who competed/facilitated/spectated/trolled The FOOSH Sixes Invitational and we look forward into 2009 for more exciting events. Stay tuned!

Thanks again to the admin team who ran the show, ngr for shoutcasting, sponsors for prizes and what not. Well done to encore for taking it out again, they deserved it.

Also thanks to complexity reptile for supporting the aus tf2 community through stv every match!

Good work to everyone behind the scenes that made the competition possible. It was the great to watch and seemed very well run from a spectators point of veiw.

Looking foward to next year and hoping im in a good enough team to be involved

I'm really surprised by the spectator numbers tbh. That's fairly impressive to have so many people watching. I know some Americans tuned in too (which is like 1am+ their time).

Yeah when i joined there was about 30 people in the STV. I had to disconnect 5 mins into Granary and when i rejoined there was only 10 spots left out of what was it, 250?

Lots of people obviously not from Australia/New Zealand too judging by the comments in chat.

Good tournament.. congrats to all the winners. Specially encore!

Looking forward to trying these mints via Sphinx.
Looking forward to trying out my new mouse via goRe.

In conclusion I found:
-Short tournaments are better for a more conclusive outcome.
-Honey on toast will improve your game dramatically
-to make friends with prize winners at least 1 week before tourney ends.
-goRe for president

wtb more short & sweet tourneys like this one

The encore-ysw game had close to 275 specs on badlands i think...which is a great sign for the TF2 community.

The encore vs tsw game went past 330 spec on gran towards the end over both relays. At least that was the highest I saw it at.
