Let's get the year started! ozfortress season 18 is upon us, the flagship competitive TF2 event for the Oceanic region! Just like previous seasons, the league is using the highly successful league system: Citadel. Teams of all skill levels are encouraged to signup and play.
OZF 18 will feature 3 brackets: Premier, Intermediate and Open. Premier will have a round robin group stage into page playoffs. The lower two brackets will consist of a Swiss group stage leading into a single elimination finals bracket. Bronze matches will be for Intermediate and Open only. For those wanting to know more about Swiss, check this out.
We are also changing how the servers are booked. Players now book through the ozfortress Discord instead of IRC. Simply join the #bookings channel in the ozfortress Discord and type /book and details of your server booking will be PM'd to you. To view more commands, type /help in the #bookings channel.
There have been minor changes to the Global Whitelist. View those changes here.
This season, we also welcome a new member to the ozfortress staff - Yauch. Yauch will be managing Open with the help of /dev/zero.
Grand Finals of Premier will be played as a no-advantage best of 5, but Open and Intermediate Grand Finals remain a best of 3. Premier will have 8 teams while Intermediate's bracket size is pending signups. Open will have an unrestricted number of teams.
In Citadel, Captains can create Teams using the "Start Team" button on the Teams page. Once created, Captains can invite players to the Team. Team invites are shown on a player's profile, which can be accessed by clicking on your name next to the bell on the top right hand corner of your screen. Teams provide a bucket of players that can be signed up for a tournament. Players may be on multiple teams but only one Roster for any given tournament. Captains may sign up a Roster for tournaments under the League page.
If you are using an existing team, you do not have to recreate your team again! Simply sign up your OZF 18 roster using your existing team.
If you're new and not sure how to get started, don't fret! Check out the recruitment section where you can find or form a team. Teams are normally comprised of 1 Medic, 1 Demoman, 2 Soldiers and 2 Scouts. Please ensure you have enough backups to last you the season.
TFLIVE will be coming back strong this season. All of the Premier bracket content you could even want will be streamed live. If you're looking for past matches to get a feel for the game, they can be found on the TFLIVE YouTube. However, the best way to learn the game is usually to just start playing. Whether you're a veteran or new to the scene, get on a team and come play!
You can sign up Wednesday the 1st up until Friday the 10th of February at 11:59 PM, with the season starting on Sunday the 12th of February 2017.
Posting Illegal Content
We have determined that the player above has been posting illegal content on ozfortress services. Furthermore, the player has been unable to prove to administrators that his recent VAC ban is not TF2 related. As such, the player have been banned from ozfortress.com, the community's competitions, and all other ozfortress properties for a period of 2 years, after which time the persons will be on permanent probation. If they are found aliasing during their competition bans, their ban duration will be extended.
Should ANY clans in ANY ozfortress competitions be found housing the listed players, the team will be permanently removed from our competitions and all members involved will face severe penalties.
The previous season of international leagues have all used the Global Whitelist to unify the competitive TF2 community. As stated before, representatives will meet as the seasons close to review, take feedback, and decide on any necessary changes. Adminstrators from ozfortress, ESEA, ETF2L and UGC as well as top players from each region have collaborated together to review the Global Whitelist. After the first public meeting, there was a proposal for controversial changes and this was met with harsh backlash from the international community. The administrators from ozfortress, ETF2L and ESEA met together and collated feedback from the top teams of their respective regions and adjusted the whitelist based on these discussions.
The changes from the Global Whitelist from OZF 17 are:
- Rescue Ranger
- Dalokohs Bar
- Pomson 6000
Cooperation and consistency between the leagues is a key factor in improving how competitive TF2 is played on a global scale. Other leagues will be announcing these changes to the whitelist soon. Future meetings regarding the Global Whitelist will also be more structured to allow for a better outcome.

Esports Arena Rewind LAN is happening as we speak in Santa Ana, California! Our Jasmine Tea is competing in the Invite bracket, versing some of the best teams from NA and EU. The Invite tournament starts with the round robin group stage, where each team will play each other once in a best-of-one. After that, they head to the playoffs, where they'll be seeded into a double elimination bracket.
Jasmine Tea placed fourth in the group stages, winning against Meat Market and Street Hoops eSports. Moving onto the playoffs, they were knocked out of the Upper Bracket after losing to Froyotech. However, they won Round 1 of the Lower Bracket against Street Hoops eSports, with an incredibly tense Snakewater match.
Day 2 of Rewind LAN starts tomorrow at 5:00 AM AEDT! The first Jasmine Tea game will be at 7:00 AM AEDT.
Tune into twitch.tv/esportsarena to catch the action!

As such, this player has been banned from ozfortress.com, the community's competitions, and all other ozfortress properties for a period of 6 months. If they are found aliasing during their competition bans, their ban duration will be extended. January 8th 2017, 18:06
Craving even more ozfortress action before OZF 18? Well, after the success of the first of our holiday cup, we are happy to announce the second summer event - ozfortress: A Midsummer Night's Cup 2 2017, where once again teams will compete over a one-night cup in two or three brackets. Midsummer Night's Cup 2 will be held on the 15th of January and be sure to remember ozfortress will be running tournament(s) over every Summer so keep an eye out for this every November!
The Cup is designed to be a casual laid-back event for over the Summer, especially after two seasons of the flagship league run back to back. Focusing on a relaxed experience, there will be three brackets - Premier, Intermediate and Open. Premier and Intermediate will have 8 teams while Open will have 16, signups permitting. All brackets will be a single elimination bracket, over a single night.
Each match will be a best-of-one with maps being set, using a win-difference of 5 / 30 minutes format. King of the Hill maps are played to a first to three format.
Ties are not allowed, and can be resolved by Golden Cap, which is first to 1 / 10 minutes. If no one caps last at the end of 10 minutes, the team that owns the middle point will be declared the winner.
Maps for Midsummer Night Cup 2 will now feature a second new map to be played in rotation, cp_cardinal_b1a, and following with the first cup, the Grand Final of Premier and Intermediate brackets will be played over three maps using a pick-ban system with a slightly modified OZF 17 Map Pool. All other matches are played in a best of one format.
Unfortunately, as these are One Night Cups, there will be NO badges for this Summer event.
As the schedule for this tournament is tight, teams must be ready with at least 5 rostered players in the server by the round start time. If a team is more than FIVE minutes late, your bracket's league administrator MUST be contacted and a forfeit win will be recorded. DO NOT DELAY YOUR MATCH AS A COURTESY TO A LATE TEAM. ONE DELAYED MATCH DELAYS THE WHOLE TOURNAMENT. Note that 5CP matches can go for 40 minutes with a Golden Cap, so this must be followed closely.
ozfortress servers will be used for this competition, but they will be distributed by ozfortress League Administrators. Be sure to be in the ozfortress Discord for ease of communication
Since there are multiple brackets, all administrators will be separated into respective brackets like the seasonal league. League administrators and their respective brackets will be announced when signups end.
Like previous seasons of the ozfortress seasonal league, along with the last cup, we will be using the highly successful league system - Citadel. In Citadel, Captains can create Teams using the "Start Team" button on the Teams page. Once created, Captains can invite a user to the Team. Team invites are shown on a user's profile, which can be accessed by clicking on your name next to the bell on the top right hand corner of your screen. Teams provide a bucket of players that can be signed up for a tournament. Players may be on multiple teams but only one Roster for any given tournament. Captains may sign up a Roster for tournaments under the League page. Thanks to our developer, map selection as described above has been implemented into Citadel.
If you are using an existing team, you do not have to recreate your team again! Simply sign up your A Midsummer Night's Cup 2 2017 roster using your existing team.
There are some ruleset differences between the Midsummer Night's Cups and the regular seasonal league. Be sure to have a read of the changes to make sure you are up to date. These have been outlined in the following posts and in the FAQ.
If you're new and not sure how to get started, don't fret! Check out the recruitment section where you can find or form a team. Teams are normally comprised of 1 Medic, 1 Demoman, 2 Soldiers and 2 Scouts. However, the best way to learn the game is usually to just start playing. Whether you're a veteran or new to the scene, get on a team and come play!
Yet again we are keen to get this information out for people to know about this - form your teams, and get ready to play some great TF2. Signups are open now, right up until Friday the 13th of January at 11:59 PM!
Happy New Year ozfortress!
On behalf of the entire admin team, I'd like to wish the ozfortress community a very happy new year. It's been a really fun year, and we are super excited about what we have planned for the next! We have the second night of A Midsummer Night's Cup 2017 just round the corner, and an action-packed OZF 18 right after that!
This year has been yet another great year for our community. For the first time in ozfortress history, we had three seasons of our flagship league in a year. Not only this, we had a solid turnout for the first night of A Midsummer Night's Cup. We only have the community to thank for that, and we hope that your enthusiasm will continue throughout this new year!
Thanks everyone for traveling with us throughout the year and being such a supportive community. We do this because we love it, and we hope you love the ride too . With that, have fun, stay safe, and see you all around for an incredible 2017.
